Dr Brett Barnes is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery in both Orthopedic Surgery and Orthopedic Sports Medicine. He is an active Fellow in the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. Originally from Houston, Texas, he has been in practice over 25 years. He began his education with a degree in Biomedical Engineering from Duke University in North Carolina, then graduated from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He did his Orthopedic residency at Duke University Medical Center, then a fellowship at Harborview Medical Center and the University of Washington in Seattle. Dr Brett enjoys the cultural diversity of Qatar. In his practice, he sees athletes of all ages. He performs surgeries to reconstruct unstable knees, shoulders, ankles, and to replace worn out knees, hips and shoulders. He especially enjoys arthroscopic reconstructions of knees and shoulders (ACLs and torn labrum). But he also repairs torn cartilage in the knee and shoulder, torn tendons in the shoulder (rotator cuff), knee (quadriceps and patellar) and ankle (Achilles). He also treats trigger fingers, carpal and cubital tunnel syndrome, and most fractures. He does PRP (platelet rich plasma) injections for knees and shoulders. He enjoys the Team approach to include the patient, family, physical or occupational therapists, and if applicable the physiotherapists and coaches, to help return patients to the life that they love. His mission is to keep active people active. He speaks English and Texan fluently, and basic French and Spanish, and continues to learn Arabic each day. He first passed through Qatar in 1993 then visited again twice just before the pandemic in early 2020.  Since arriving here for work in the fall of 2020 he enjoys the common values of the 2 cultures- faith, family, fitness, food, and football.  If not in the DOC Medical Center branch in Lusail, he can usually be found on or near a futsal court playing football.
